Chamber of Commerce awards dinner to honor local entities

It’s awards season across the county, and Canyon is no exception.

The Annual Chamber Dinner and Awards Celebration will be held Feb. 28, and the Canyon Chamber of Commerce will open the online nomination process for awards Monday.

Jenny Morgan of Canyon Chamber of Commerce said that nominations will be taken online through Thursday.

The top five in each category will then be up for vote Feb. 9-19.

The chamber allows one vote in each category per person. The link for nominating and voting will be listed on the chamber’s Facebook page.

Award categories are: New Business of the Year, Ruby Abbott Volunteer of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, Woman of the Year and, Man of the Year.

“The public are the ones doing business here and going to the businesses,” said Roger Remlinger, executive director of Canyon Chamber of Commerce.

“Who better to judge the businesses than the community who supports them?”

The nomination process will also include The Canyon News Citizen of the Year, which will then be decided by a committee made up of Canyon News staff and volunteers.

The chamber’s annual dinner and awards celebration will kick-off with a reception hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at West Texas A&M University’s Alumni Banquet Hall.

Entrance will be at the Buffalo Room with valet parking on the east side of the facility. Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m.

Key note speaker will be Toby Tucker who, along with his wife, owns the Amarillo Venom and Amarillo Thunderheads.

The awards ceremony will feature Ken Robinson serving as master of ceremonies.

The chamber is currently accepting donations for the silent auction and raffle. Morgan said a tax donation letter can be provided to those who make donations.

“It’s a good way for local businesses to advertise their goods and specials,” she said.

While the dinner and awards celebration may end by 8:30 p.m., the night will be far from over.

A social time will be held following the event with DJ music provided.

“We wanted to lighten it up and have fun,” Morgan said. “We want this to be a celebration and enjoyable for everyone.”

Special sponsorships for the evening include Yellow Rock Events, and decorator Kyla Justus providing décor for the evening.

Remlinger said that he looks forward to honoring local businesses and individuals for their accomplishments.

“We want everyone to know how well the businesses are doing and how thankful we are for them to be here,” he said. “We’re just really excited with the new things we’ve got going on. It gives us a platform to lay out our year’s calendar.

“However, the most important thing to us is that the local businesses are recognized and given their due.”

Entrance to the Annual Chamber Dinner and Awards Celebration is $40 per person. One may register online at http://canyonchamber.org or call the chamber at 655-7815.
