Pouring on the performance for Lone Star’s powdered milk and milk products.
Dairy farming requires dedication—and lots of hard work. Founded in 1997 by three Texas dairy farmers, Lone Star Milk Producers didn’t grow from a small producer to the nation’s 12th largest dairy cooperative by being dedicated to less than the finest product. Or by letting the grass grow under its feet, so to speak. This is a company that looks ahead before it moves ahead, and when it came to looking for the right location to build a manufacturing plant to produce cream, condensed milk, butter, ingredients for infant formulas and assorted premium powders, Lone Star had ample options to choose from, with good reason to be choosy: The new plant’s technology would require a high level of skills to reach Lone Star’s standard of performance.
However, one location stood out for the same reason Lone Star products stand out: Quality that comes from an excellent work ethic. It was work by the people of Canyon, the City of Canyon and the Canyon EDC that helped Lone Star make the commitment.
“Their tireless efforts on our behalf helped convince us,” says Jim Baird, Lone Star President.
Upon construction, the plant will have the capacity to process approximately 2 million pounds of milk daily, employing a staff of more than 60 with an annual payroll of $3.5 million. The plant’s state-of-the-art technology means that processing the milk, which is 87% water, will create not only delicious and nutritious food products, but also approximately 90,000 gallons of potable water daily as a byproduct, water that will be available for other municipal purposes such as irrigation.
A hard-working plant finds the perfect hard-working location, ready to pour on the performance. That’s Canyon can-do.
