Canyon, TX Honored with Nomination for Texas Economic Development Council’s 2024 Community Economic Development Awards

October 28, 2024 – Canyon, TX – The City of Canyon has been recognized as a finalist in the Texas Economic Development Council’s (TEDC) prestigious 2024 Community Economic Development Awards (CEDA). Competing in the population category of 10,001 to 20,000, Canyon stands among an elite group of Texas cities acknowledged for their exceptional contributions toward local and state economic vitality through creativity, leadership, and partnership.

The TEDC’s Community Economic Development Award celebrates outstanding accomplishments of cities across Texas in the areas of business retention, recruitment, and community improvement. This year, thirty-nine communities applied, demonstrating an impressive commitment to enhancing the economic foundation of their regions and serving as models of excellence within the state.

“We’re honored to be recognized by the TEDC for our efforts in advancing Canyon’s economic development,” said Stephanie Tucker, Executive Director of Canyon Economic Development Corporation (EDC). “This nomination highlights the dedication of our community, businesses, and leadership as we work together to create lasting impact, attract investment, and support sustainable growth.”

The TEDC awards are based on five criteria: innovativeness, transferability, community commitment and leverage, measured objectives, and secondary benefits. These categories celebrate communities that demonstrate visionary approaches, share valuable practices, engage deeply with their residents, achieve measurable outcomes, and foster broad, positive impacts that go beyond economic metrics.

Winners in each population category were recognized at TEDC’s 2024 Annual Conference Awards Luncheon held on October 24, 2024, in Addison, Texas. While Kilgore Economic Development Corporation took the award in Canyon’s category, the nomination itself serves as a testament to the city’s significant strides in economic development and community advancement.

Carlton Schwab, President & CEO of TEDC, noted, “The Community Economic Development Award honors the excellent work of communities, their leaders, and economic development professionals. Each nominee has excelled in boosting their economic base, and we are proud to recognize their achievements.”

The Canyon Economic Development Corporation remains dedicated to strengthening the city’s economic future through strategic investments, infrastructure enhancements, and strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations. This nomination reaffirms Canyon’s role as a leader in community development, paving the way for continued progress and growth.
